After updating my baits for a spring trip, I caught several bass between six and ten pounds at Keuka Lake, all on Rapalas. The fish were taken from a dock, during pre-spawn conditions, in water from 4-10 feet deep, with rocky bottom. This lure caught some smaller fish, but was far outproduced by the Rapala jointed shad-rap.

The latter's weight permits effortlessly long casts with braided line, which, in 30 pound test, allowed me to pull free of numerous snags. I may use the rattlin baby bass when conditions are appropriate, but will call on the jointed shad-rap for grown-up greensides.
